Elders in Residence

In order to ensure that programming is culturally relevant and grounded in positive community norms, MIWRC employs two fulltime Elders in Residence.

Linda Eagle Speaker (Agency Elder in Residence)

Linda is a traditional teacher and healer from the Blackfoot Confederacy, Blood Tribe. In her Agency Elder role, Linda is responsible for providing traditional teaching and support for MIWRC clients, advising MIWRC staff in cultural aspects of program planning/implementation, incorporating mind body medicine (MBM) practice into all agency programs, and sharing MBM techniques with other urban and tribal agencies.

Donna LaChapelle (Nokomis Endaad Elder in Residence)

Donna is an Ojibwe/Dakota traditional teacher and healer. As Nokomis Endaad's Elder in Residence, Donna provides traditional teachings and MBM for Native women challenged by co-occurring chemical dependency and mental illness and guides the Nokomis Endaad staff in providing culturally grounded client support. Together, the Elders in Residence also work to extend the benefits of MBM and traditional counseling/trauma healing modalities into regional tribal communities via our Mind Body Medicine in Indian Country education and training program.
