Domestic Violence Prevention & Intervention

An intervention and healing program for American Indian women, girls, and Two Spirit people who have experienced Intimate Partner Violence, including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and/or commercial sexual exploitation (CSE). Individual counseling and community-based education activities provide a client-centered, strengths-based "safe space" that utilizes cultural teachings and other protective aspects of culture to encourage healing, build resilience, reduce risk of repeat traumas, and counter the normalization of intimate partner violence both outside and within our communities. In addition to serving urban American Indian women and families across the lifespan, we also bring programming to adult Native women incarcerated at Hennepin County Adult Correctional Facility (ACF) and the Federal Correctional Institute: Waseca, MN.

Sexual Assault Advocacy

One Sexual Assault Advocate provides crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, forensic examination support, and court advocacy for American Indian survivors of sexual violence, including individuals incarcerated at the Hennepin County Adult Correctional Facility (ACF) and the Federal Correctional Institute: Waseca, MN. The Sexual Assault Advocate is also able to assist clients with making police reports, initiating criminal investigation proceedings, and obtaining orders of protection against perpetrators of sexual violence.
